BASF and Yara end low-carbon ammonia project
BASF and Yara have discontinued their planned low-carbon ammonia with CCS project on the U.S. Gulf Coast; Yara will continue evaluating U.S. ammonia equity opportunities while both continue operating existing ammonia plants (Freeport, Ludwigshafen, Antwerp).
ABB and Citroniq target 100% biogenic polypropylene plant
ABB has signed a supply agreement with Citroniq to provide automation, electrification and digital technologies for Citroniq’s planned 100% biogenic polypropylene commercial-scale facility in Nebraska, scheduled to start operations in 2029. Citroniq says the three-plant platform could decarbonize US polypropylene production by about 20%, and the first facility will capture three million tonnes of CO₂ per year and permanently store it as solid pellets.
Malaysia at CEM16 and MI-10 in Busan
Malaysia, led by Deputy Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Sri Fadillah Yusof, participated in CEM16 and MI-10 in Busan and reaffirmed the NETR target to achieve 70% renewable energy capacity by 2050 and support for the CEM-MI Agenda for Action. The delegation also visited KHNP’s Saeol NPP to observe nuclear safety technology and explore potential cooperation on nuclear energy as a low-carbon source.
Radical Retrofit: Adapting Cities for Resilience
JLL and Economist Impact publish the ‘Radical Retrofit’ report urging retrofit rates to rise from 1% to ~3% annually, reporting that 69% of respondents shifted toward retrofitting and identifying policy catalysts, financial barriers (61% owner hesitancy, 51% weak investor interest) and six pathways across 12 global cities.
Slovakia PM opens Hoval heat pump plant in Istebné
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico opened Hoval’s new heat pump manufacturing plant in Istebné on 26 August 2025, announcing an investment of approximately €60 million. Hoval plans to use green technologies, target production of up to 32,000 heat pumps annually, and grow employment at the site to 600 by 2030.
Minerva Carbon wins €1.8M EXIST research funding
Minerva Carbon, a Mülheim-based deep tech startup, secured €1.8 million from the EXIST Transfer of Research I programme to commercialize mesoporous high-performance carbon materials and build a pilot plant at the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung.
