House introduces bills on PFAS, farming, wildfire grid

Representatives Scholten and Fitzpatrick introduced the PURE Water Act (H.R.4961) to fund municipal treatment removal of PFAS from drinking water. Other reintroduced bills include H.R.5030 (Specialty Crop promotion), H.R.5004 (Next Generation of Farmers), and H.R.4490 (Wildfire Grid Resiliency) which includes a $10 million DOE allocation.

EDF report recommends standards for biochar carbon credits

Environmental Defense Fund published a report analyzing five biochar carbon market protocols and recommends measures to enhance integrity and comparability in the Voluntary Carbon Marketplace. The report calls for stronger uncertainty accounting, identification of alternative feedstock uses, standardized leakage definitions, more research on durability/permanence, and a centralized registry to prevent double counting.

Developing the Far East fuel and energy complex

President Vladimir Putin chaired a meeting in Vladivostok on Sept 4, 2025 directing ministries and state energy firms to draft a programme to develop the Far East’s energy capacities through 2050 and to identify funding. He prioritized sustainable gas supply (noting the Yuzhno-Kirinskoye field), assessing expanded coal generation where justified, accelerating new power capacity and grid upgrades, developing hydropower projects with financing, and advancing nuclear and small/floating nuclear plants.
