Turning rubber into resources
New Zealand has launched a national tire recycling scheme, called ‘Tyrewise’ for collecting, processing and reusing/recycling end-of-life tyres. New tyres imported March 1 2024 onwards will have a fee ($6.65 plus GST nationwide for a standard passenger car tyre) built into them to support the scheme. End-of-life tyres will be collected for free from tyre shops, and consumers can dispose off their used tyres at these shops.
