NSW’s Commercial Food Waste Mandate and the Role for Biogas Digestors

NSW government has released a mandate for commercial food waste collection (COFO) beginning 1 July 2025. This initiative aims to improve resource recovery and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by targeting large food waste generators like supermarkets, hospitality venues, and institutions. By 2029, more businesses will be required to establish dedicated food waste collection systems, creating a significant opportunity for biogas digestors that can convert food waste into compost and renewable energy.
