NOAA and Brightband collaborate on AI weather data project

US-based NOAA’s Physical Sciences Laboratory and Global Systems Laboratory, in collaboration with the AI startup Brightband, have initiated a two-year Cooperative Research And Development Agreement (CRADA) to optimize NOAA-managed observational weather data for AI applications. The project, named ‘Making NOAA Observation Data Artificial Intelligence-Ready’, aims to transform a joint NOAA-NASA archive of observational data dating back to 1970 into an open-source repository for AI developers to enhance weather forecasting capabilities.
