Greenpeace trial against Energy Transfer over SLAPP lawsuit

US-based Energy Transfer has launched a lawsuit against Greenpeace International and two Greenpeace entities, seeking US$300 million in damages. This lawsuit is viewed as a SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation) aimed at silencing dissent following the Indigenous-led protests at the Dakota Access Pipeline. Greenpeace entities have faced legal battles from ET since 2017, striving to protect free speech rights and public protest participation.
