UK and Czechia Partner on Small Modular Reactors for Clean Energy
The UK government and Czechia have signed a landmark partnership to collaborate on small modular reactors (SMRs) to boost clean energy, economic growth, and skilled jobs.
- The agreement includes potential delivery of up to six new SMR reactors in Czechia by Rolls-Royce SMR, with ČEZ holding a 20% stake; the UK government has pledged over £2.5 billion for the SMR programme, supporting up to 3,000 skilled jobs and powering around 3 million homes.

Rolls-Royce SMR was selected as the preferred bidder to develop SMRs in the UK, alongside a £14.2 billion investment in Sizewell C, with EDF taking a 12.5% stake; projects aim for grid connection in the mid-2030s, contributing to a new nuclear golden age.
This partnership positions the UK and Czechia as frontrunners in the global SMR market, projected to reach nearly £500 billion by 2050, advancing energy security and export opportunities.
