MicroCarb Satellite Launch Enhances Global CO2 Monitoring

The UK Space Agency announced the successful launch of the MicroCarb satellite, Europe’s first dedicated CO₂ monitoring satellite, developed in partnership with France’s CNES.

• £15 million UK Government investment backs the mission, which will orbit 650km above Earth, mapping urban CO₂ emissions at 2km x 2km resolution and monitoring natural carbon sinks.
• UK scientific institutions including NPL, Thales Alenia Space, RAL Space, GMV UK, and universities are integral to the mission’s development, data processing, and analysis, with first data products expected in about one year.
