Taiwan launches MobileMT airborne geothermal survey
The Geological Survey and Mining Management Center (GSMMA) of Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs announced the country’s first MobileMT airborne magnetotelluric survey to be conducted in Yilan in early August in cooperation with ITRI and De An Aviation, with a Canadian geothermal/geophysics expert team.
-
Confirmed actions: The MobileMT airborne survey will be executed Aug 6–12, with helicopters operated by 德安航空公司 (De An Aviation) suspending MobileMT sensors; takeoff/landing site is 宜蘭運動公園 (Yilan Sports Park) and primary flight areas are 三星鄉與大同鄉 (Sanxing and Datong townships, Yilan). Flights will operate at low altitude (approximately several hundred meters), daily flight times adjusted by weather, and the operation has received approval from relevant authorities.
-
Data handling & public outreach: Measured subsurface resistivity data will be analyzed to map geothermal-relevant structures and results will be published on the 地熱探勘資訊平台 (geothermal exploration information platform). Residents are asked not to approach the operation zones; spokesperson 陳勉銘 (副主任) and operational contact 林錫宏 (副組長) provided contact details for inquiries.
