BYD celebrates 13 millionth new energy vehicle
BYD has announced it has become the first car manufacturer to reach a production milestone of 13 million New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), with the milestone vehicle — a YANGWANG U7 — rolling off the line on 21 July 2025.
- Milestone & sales figures: BYD reached 13 million NEVs produced (milestone vehicle: YANGWANG U7, rolled off 21 July 2025); in H1 2025 BYD sold 2,145,954 new energy passenger vehicles globally, including 470,086 units sold in overseas markets (exports up 128.5% YoY). YANGWANG cumulative deliveries have surpassed 10,000 units.
- Technology, timeline & operations: BYD shifted its model strategy to solely electrified powertrains; it took about eight months to move from 10 million to 13 million NEVs. BYD introduced the Blade Battery in 2020 (LFP chemistry, passed puncture test at 30–60 °C, emitted no smoke or flames, rated for >5,000 charge/discharge cycles). BYD operates >30 industrial parks across China, the United States, Canada, Japan, Brazil, Hungary and India, is listed on the Hong Kong and Shenzhen Stock Exchanges, and states it employs over 120,000 engineers and technicians.
