AI model improves EV battery life and safety
Uppsala University researchers have announced an AI-based battery ageing model that improves robustness of battery health predictions by up to 70% and could extend EV battery life and enhance safety.
- Main announcement: The research team led by Professor Daniel Brandell at the Ångström Advanced Battery Centre, Uppsala University, developed an AI model that combines several years of battery testing (database built from numerous very short charging segments) with a detailed chemical-process model, reporting up to 70% increased robustness in battery health predictions; study published in Energy & Environmental Science (DOI: 10.1039/D5EE03268G) in 2025.
- Background and implementation details: The study was carried out in collaboration with Aalborg University (Denmark); the method reduces reliance on complete vehicle datasets by using short charging-segment data and detailed chemistry modelling, and the press release provides contact details for implementation inquiries (Daniel.Brandell@kemi.uu.se, +46 (0)739 435932).
