Over $11 Million Awarded To Clean Hydrogen Projects

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that NYSERDA awarded more than $11 million to five clean hydrogen R&D projects through the Advanced Fuels and Thermal Energy Research Program.

  • Awards and project details: NYSERDA awarded more than $11 million across five projects: $2,000,000 to National Grid Ventures to install and test a 100% hydrogen-fueled linear generator at Northport Power Plant for one year; $2,000,000 to Plug Power Inc. to co-develop cryo-compressed hydrogen distribution trailers with Verne; over $4.9 million to Stony Brook University for a low-pressure, ambient-temperature hydrogen storage system at Northwell Health Hospital; $2,000,000 to SWITCH Maritime LLC to develop and demonstrate a 150-passenger hydrogen fuel cell-electric ferry for NYC waterways; and over $220,000 to GTI Energy to evaluate geological hydrogen storage potential in New York.
  • Program and funding context: These awards come from NYSERDA’s Advanced Fuels and Thermal Energy Research Program and build on NYSERDA I&R activities (approximately $1.2 billion deployed over 15 years, >$800 million invested to date). The projects are funded through the State’s 10-year, $6 billion Clean Energy Fund and align with New York State climate and disadvantaged communities criteria.
