Cabinet issued a statement summarising decisions and updates from meetings held on 22 July and 6 August 2025.

  • Main actions and approvals: Cabinet approved publication of South Africa’s second Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) for consultation, proposing a GHG target range of 320 – 380 mt CO2 eq in 2035, approved South Africa’s accession to the Afreximbank Establishment Agreement (transitioning ECIC to class A shareholding), and directed trade-response measures to the 30% US tariffs expected from 7 August 2025 (including an Export Support Desk, Localisation Support Fund (LSF), Export and Competitiveness Support Programme (ECSP) and a draft Block Exemption for Exporters to be published by end of the week).
  • Additional updates and timelines: Cabinet noted Giyani Water Services Project is 90.23% complete with envisaged completion by September 2025, past Giyani interventions cost an estimated R6 billion funded by DWS; Deputy President Mashatile’s working visit to China (14–18 July 2025) shared the South Africa-China Trade and Investment Package 2025–2029 (priorities: top 100 products, permanent expo, investment in steel, tyres, automotive, battery manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, rail, digital economy); Nigeria committed to finalise commercial terms for crude oil allocations to South Africa by end of August 2025.
