Xampla raises more than $14m to scale plant-based plastics
Xampla has secured more than $14m in Series A funding led by Emerald Technology Ventures, BGF and Matterwave Ventures.
- Funding & immediate plan: Xampla raised more than $14m in a Series A led by Emerald Technology Ventures, BGF and Matterwave Ventures, with follow-on from Amadeus Capital Partners and Horizons Ventures; the funding will be used over the next five years to scale Morro™ materials and is expected to replace more than ten billion units of polluting single-use plastics (including linings in takeaway boxes, coffee cups and sachets).
- Technology, partnerships & rollout: Morro™ is a natural polymer made from regenerative plant proteins that is plastic-free, biodegradable and home compostable, maintains cardboard recyclability, and includes Morro™ films (soluble and food-safe / edible). Xampla has deployed coatings with partners 2M Group, Huhtamaki, Transcend Packaging, and replaced coatings on boxes used by Just Eat Takeaway and Bunzl Catering Supplies; the company states it will expand into Asia Pacific while growing in the UK and Europe.
