Made in the UK roadshow showcases Scottish exports
The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) is bringing the “Made in the UK, Sold to the World” roadshow to Edinburgh to showcase Scottish exporters in the financial, professional and business services sectors and to provide tailored export support to SMEs. Minister for Small Business and Economic Transformation Blair McDougall will give the keynote address and meet businesses from law, insurance and fintech.
-
Main announcement / action: The DBT roadshow will host exporters, commercial officers, international buyers and Export Champions in Edinburgh to offer tailored export advice and market workshops (including a workshop on exporting services to the United States). The Minister Blair McDougall will give a keynote address and tour workshops and exhibitions. The roadshow is part of the government’s Plan for Change and the Modern Industrial Strategy, targeting one of eight growth-driving sectors: financial, professional and business services.
-
Background and implementation details: The UK has expanded UK Export Finance (UKEF) capacity by £20 billion to £80 billion to support more smaller firms win overseas contracts; the Business Growth Service (BGS) and UK Export Academy (which helped more than 11,000 businesses sell internationally last financial year) are highlighted as delivery channels. The sector contributed £300 billion to the economy in 2024 and the roadshow will be supported by Export Champions such as Myles Stephenson (Modulr). Plans referenced include five new centres of excellence across the UK (including Glasgow) to help services firms adopt new technology.
