Taiwan Ministry Supports Hualien Guangfu Disaster Recovery
The Ministry of the Interior announced it will fully support Hualien Guangfu Township’s disaster recovery efforts following the Mata’ian Creek dammed-lake overflow.

Main action (inspection & restoration): On 2025-09-28 Premier Zhuo Rong-tai visited Guangfu Township accompanied by Vice Minister Dong Jianhong and other central and local officials to inspect stormwater drainage and sediment damage. The Ministry used the sewer GIS system and on-site manhole inspections to assess damage and found severe sediment accumulation in storm sewers on Zhongshan Road, Zhongxiao Road and Fozu Street; the Ministry committed to assist the local government with dredging and restoration so sewer facilities can resume normal function. The report noted sewer facilities on Linsen Road, Zhongxing Road, Zhongshan Rd (section 1) and Sugar Factory Street remained operational. The area remains under red alert, and personnel are urged to follow evacuation and safety instructions.

Background and support measures: The Ministry reported an influx of volunteers coordinated by the Volunteer Center and confirmed it has drafted housing assistance measures for submission to the Executive Yuan for approval, including:
- rent subsidies,
- reconstruction/purchase housing loan interest subsidies,

repair loan interest subsidies;
These measures are presented as selectable options for affected households. The Ministry thanked cooperating ministries, counties, private contractors and groups for rapid mobilization.
