EU renewables reach 54.0% of electricity in Q2 2025
Eurostat reports that renewables supplied 54.0% of net electricity generation in the EU in Q2 2025.
- Main announcement: In Q2 2025 54.0% of net electricity generation in the EU came from renewable energy sources (up from 52.7% in Q2 2024); solar produced 122 317 GWh in Q2 2025 (representing 19.9% of the total electricity mix) and June 2025 was the first month where solar reached 22.0% and became the EU’s largest electricity source.

Year-on-year largest increases: Luxembourg +13.5 pp, Belgium +9.1 pp (both driven by solar). Composition of renewables: solar 36.8%, wind 29.5%, hydro 26.0%, combustible renewables 7.3%, geothermal 0.4%.
