Framatome and Standard Nuclear create TRISO JV

Framatome and Standard Nuclear Inc. announced the formation of a joint venture, Standard Nuclear‑Framatome (SNF), to produce commercial quantities of TRISO fuel and advanced reactor products.

• JV name and structure: Standard Nuclear‑Framatome (SNF), a reactor-agnostic joint venture governed by a board of executives from both companies; production target is 2 metric tons of TRISO fuel per year once operational; manufacturing start planned for 2027, subject to regulatory approvals.
• Regulatory and roles details: Framatome submitted a 10 CFR Part 70 license amendment for its Richland, Washington fuel fabrication facility to the U.S. NRC in September 2024, accepted for review and expected to be finalized by Spring 2026; Framatome contributes fuel-cycle expertise and manufacturing infrastructure, Standard Nuclear contributes TRISO manufacturing technology and a large-scale pilot facility; JV will target supply to SMRs, microreactors, HTGRs and other advanced reactors domestically and internationally.
