True North launches Tamarack, Canada's largest DAC deployment

True North Carbon (CarbonCapture Inc. subsidiary) has announced Project Tamarack, the largest single-technology direct air capture (DAC) deployment in Canada, to be hosted at Deep Sky Alpha in Innisfail, Alberta.

  • Project Tamarack launch: True North Carbon will deploy a modular DAC system with capacity up to 2,000 tonnes CO2/year, hosted at Deep Sky Alpha in Innisfail, Alberta; the technology uses an energy-efficient capture process powered entirely by solar energy. An official commissioning ceremony is scheduled for late October 2025, with federal, provincial, and local representatives expected to attend to mark the “First Capture” milestone.

  • Partnerships & implementation: The system is hosted by Deep Sky (providing utilities, renewable power, operations, and CO2 transport and sequestration) and will have Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) and credit oversight by Isometric; the project aligns with Alberta’s TIER Regulation and supports integration with existing CCUS infrastructure including the Pathways Project. The announcement also highlights supplier opportunities for Canadian firms and planned education and community engagement with local and Indigenous communities.
