GCC launches public consultation on low-carbon ammonia methodology
The Global Carbon Council has launched a public stakeholder consultation on its draft “Methodology for the Production of Low-Carbon Ammonia” (GCCNMT002 – GSC Version Draft V1.0 – 2025).
- Consultation launched for draft Methodology: The draft “Methodology for the Production of Low-Carbon Ammonia (GCCNMT002 – GSC Version Draft V1.0 – 2025)” enables quantification of emission reductions from switching conventional ammonia production to low-carbon hydrogen (including electrolysis with new captive renewables, blue hydrogen with CCS, and residual hydrogen); it applies to greenfield and brownfield facilities, aligns with Article 6.4, includes a 1% annual downward adjustment to claimed reductions, uses a life-cycle leakage assessment, and incorporates water safeguards via the Overall Factory-to-Basin Impact (OFBI) index.
- Background and participation details: Ammonia production is noted as responsible for nearly 500 million tonnes of CO₂ annually; the public comment period is open until 25th December 2025 and stakeholders should submit comments to operations@globalcarboncouncil.com.
