EIB lends €600m to fund BC-Wind 390 MW offshore
The European Investment Bank (EIB) will contribute €600 million and become the largest lender to the construction of BC-Wind, a 390 MW offshore windfarm in the Baltic Sea developed by Ocean Winds (a joint venture of ENGIE and EDPR), with production expected in 2028 and construction able to start in 2026 following an ~€2 billion financing package with 15 lenders.
- Main announcement: The EIB will provide a €600 million loan as the largest lender for BC-Wind (390 MW), located ~20 km off Poland’s western coast, comprising 26 bottom-fixed turbines up to 15 MW each, start of production 2028, and construction permitted to start in 2026 after Ocean Winds sealed an around €2 billion financing agreement with 15 lenders.
- Background and details: The loan is backed by InvestEU guarantees, aligns with RePowerEU and the TechEU programme, and is part of EIB’s broader Poland offshore activity (EIB invested €1.7 billion in Polish offshore wind this year; earlier support includes €700 million for Bałtyk 2 & 3 and €400 million for Baltica 2).
