EIB and Crédit Agricole CIB agree strategic support for EU wind

The European Investment Bank (EIB) has signed a strategic agreement with Crédit Agricole CIB to scale financing for European wind energy and to mobilise private capital across the sector.

  • Main action: EIB will provide a €500 million counter-guarantee allowing Crédit Agricole CIB to build a portfolio of bank guarantees worth up to €1 billion to support new wind farm investments across the European Union; the operation is expected to trigger up to €8 billion in real economy investments and is part of a €6.5 billion EIB wind energy package.
  • Background and details: The package expanded from €5 billion (Dec 2023) to €6.5 billion (2025), aims to add 32 GW of wind generation capacity (contributing toward 117 GW needed for EU 2030 renewable targets), is backed by InvestEU and the European Commission, and is linked to other EIB actions including €600 million for the 390 MW BC-Wind offshore project (expected start 2028) and recent EIB support for Prysmian R&D (€300 million, first tranche €200 million).
