Studies of 15 dominant tree species in the interior western United States have revealed that seedlings are occupying historically cooler areas than mature trees, indicating regeneration failures in the hottest parts of species’ ranges. Disturbances did not uniformly catalyse climatic range shifts; differences were species- and disturbance-specific. Assisted migration programmes may be needed to help trees adapt.

A study has classified global ecoregions into dependent, resilient and vulnerable categories to analyze the impact of tropical cyclone pattern changes on coastal ecosystems. The study found that 9.4% of terrestrial ecosystems are susceptible to transformation due to cyclone pattern changes between 1980-2017 and 2015-2050 under climate scenario SSP5-8.5. Even resilient ecosystems may experience a decrease in the average interval between storms, potentially affecting their recovery time.
