Vertiv and Caterpillar partner on energy-optimised AI data centers

Vertiv and Caterpillar Inc. have signed a strategic collaboration, via a Memorandum of Understanding, to deliver integrated, pre-designed energy optimisation solutions combining power generation, CCHP, and Vertiv power and cooling systems for AI data centers.

• Vertiv, Caterpillar, and Solar Turbines will integrate Vertiv’s power distribution and cooling portfolio with Caterpillar/Solar Turbines’ natural gas turbines and reciprocating engines to provide modular, pre-designed reference architectures that accelerate time-to-power, lower PUE, and support on-site CCHP-based energy for AI data centers, backed by both firms’ global lifecycle service networks.
• The collaboration underpins Vertiv’s Bring Your Own Power & Cooling (BYOP&C) and grid-to-chip strategies, targets customers seeking to reduce or eliminate grid dependence, and is framed as a key step in refining an ecosystem for energy-constrained AI centers, while Caterpillar highlights its broader role in reduced-carbon, sustainable power and its 2024 sales and revenues of $64.8 billion as context for its energy and power systems capabilities.
