The Environmental and Energy Study Institute and the World Resources Institute have announced a public briefing on interregional transmission, scheduled for Wednesday, October 7, 2026, from 1:00 to 2:30 PM EDT.

• The event is online only and will be streamed via www.eesi.org/livecast; attendees are asked to RSVP through EESI.
• The briefing will focus on benefits of interregional transmission for the economy, climate, and grid reliability, including policy levers, regulatory hurdles, and solutions informed by the FERC 2024 regional transmission framework.

Azerbaijan’s presidency said documents signed on the sidelines of the 2nd Azerbaijan International Investment Forum were exchanged in Baku on 26 September 2026.

• SOCAR exchanged a Final Investment Decision for full-field development of the Absheron gas-condensate field with XRG and TotalEnergies.
• Other exchanged agreements covered natural gas, LNG, energy security, energy infrastructure, upstream projects, Oracle Alloy, a joint venture, and investment frameworks involving partners including Comstock Resources, Apollo, SEFE, Eni, ExxonMobil, Oracle, VNG, UFlex Group, Carlsberg Group, and Hong Kong Renteng International Trade Co. Limited.

Greenpeace has highlighted a series of global protest and photo-activism actions across several countries, including Spain, Brazil, Indonesia, New Zealand, and the United States.

• In Spain, Greenpeace Spain displayed a 530 m² eye at the Hemisfèric in Valencia with the message “The world is watching” in support of activists charged in the Sagunto case; the trial was set to begin Wednesday at the Ciudad de la Justicia in Valencia, with prosecutors seeking five years in prison for each of 11 activists.

The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that Ukraine is accelerating production of systems to intercept Russian jet-powered Shahed drones, and that new decisions were also made to deploy production of various types of jet engines in Ukraine.

• The Supreme Commander-in-Chief Staff reviewed test results for interceptors against Russian jet-powered Shahed drones, discussed shoot-down rates and operational experience, and identified the main systems needed to strengthen Ukraine’s air defence.
• The Main Directorate of Intelligence briefed the meeting on Russia’s technological plans for 2027, including production capabilities and supply schemes for components; Zelenskyy also said partners need new sanctions packages targeting shadow schemes used to produce drones and missiles, especially ballistic missiles.
• The meeting also approved additional decisions to protect and ensure the uninterrupted operation of data centre infrastructure and other critical communications facilities, with implementation required at all levels.

DataBank has announced that it is building a new data center campus in Culpeper, Virginia, while emphasizing community and sustainability initiatives.

• The company says the new campus is being built in Culpeper, Virginia to support growing demand for digital infrastructure.
• DataBank also says it is investing in technology education, sustainability, and community initiatives across the markets where it operates; this reads as a company message rather than a detailed project filing or deal announcement.

Stony Brook University reported on a September 23 talk by Lav Varshney titled “The Physical Economy of Intelligence: Marketcraft, Data Centers and Climate.” This is a university event recap/commentary rather than a new corporate announcement.

• Varshney discussed how AI infrastructure, data centers, chips/GPUs, cooling, and grid impacts shape the economics and environmental footprint of AI.
• He argued that markets and institutions will determine AI’s direction, and said pricing should reflect water scarcity and land impacts beyond the purchase parcel; the talk was sponsored by the Collaborative for the Earth, Department of Political Science, and AI Innovation Institute at a Sept. 23 event in the Laufer Center.

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Adebayo Ogunlesi, Founding Partner, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), in Baku on 25 September 2026.

• They discussed the memorandum of intent on long-term cooperation signed in Davos between SOFAZ, BlackRock, and GIP, and reviewed the results and prospects of the partnership.
• The sides said their cooperation already includes joint investments in Italo and London’s Gatwick Airport, and they also discussed opportunities in Azerbaijan’s infrastructure sector, including digital and transport infrastructure; the article says firms managing US$30 trillion participated in the related forum events, while BlackRock manages US$15.3 trillion and GIP US$170 billion in assets.
