Sweden moves from nuclear push to large-scale green steel transition
The Swedish government proposed lifting the uranium mining ban (legislative proposal June 2025, effective 1 Jan 2026) to support nuclear expansion, while industry leaders LKAB, SSAB and Vattenfall are advancing large green-steel projects (HYBRIT and Stegra) with LKAB planning €13–36 billion in investments. Sweden exported over €5 billion in metals/minerals in 2024, produces 89% of the EU’s iron ore, and the green-steel initiatives require up to 70 TWh/year and target commercial scale between 2026 and 2035.
FCA chair outlines new climate disclosure rules and market actions
Ashley Alder, Chair of the FCA, announced new climate disclosure requirements in the Public Offers and Admissions to Trading Regime including a Protected Forward‑Looking Statements category, plans to consult on adopting ISSB standards for listed companies, to regulate ESG ratings providers, and to run technical assistance and pilot programmes with PRA and GFI. The speech highlighted global market context, citing a Chinese EV battery IPO raising over US$5bn and China’s green bond issuance of over US$555bn by end‑2024.
