Taima-3 Submarine Cable Breaks; Microwave Backup Activated, Matsu

The Ministry of Digital Affairs announced that the Taima-3 submarine cable between Beigan and Dongyin has fully broken; Chunghwa Telecom activated microwave backup and repair operations have been accelerated.

Chunghwa Telecom has followed standard operating procedures to activate microwave communication backup, transferring voice and internet traffic to microwave links; mobile, voice and data services remain operational, while cable TV is unavailable due to lack of conversion equipment. Repairs are expected by end of July, ROC year 115 (July 2026), if sea conditions permit.
• Background and follow-up: The Ministry notes a prior partial core damage reported on 30 March 2026 (ROC 115-03-30) at the same location; the company suspects poor sea conditions caused movement of a stranded vessel wreck that damaged the cable. The Ministry has instructed Chunghwa Telecom to coordinate a cable repair ship and accelerate restoration work according to procedures.
