Bezos Centre and EnterpriseSG launch sustainable protein startup competition
The Bezos Centre for Sustainable Protein at NUS and Enterprise Singapore have launched a Sustainable Protein Startup Competition to accelerate early-stage sustainable protein innovation.
- Main announcement: The competition will select three winning startups, each to receive funding and in-kind support of up to $175,000, with the competition launching 1 August 2025 at the International Summit on Sustainable Protein (ISSP); plans are to run the competition annually and support up to 15 early-stage global and local startups over five years. Final pitching for shortlisted startups (eight finalists) will be held at Singapore International Agri-Food Week in November 2025; application window is 1 August–8 September 2025.
- Background & implementation details: The initiative forms part of the Bezos Centre @ NUS US$3 million in grants over five years to support early- and growth-stage startups; the release states the Bezos Centre will provide a $123,400 cash grant per winner and EnterpriseSG will match with a $123,400 Startup SG Founder (Competition) grant; winners will also receive up to $925,000 in-kind support from the Bezos Centre. The Centre has an earlier-cited US$30 million grant from the Bezos Earth Fund for establishment, and it has earmarked up to US$1.5 million to support growth-stage projects, including grants of up to US$500,000 each to three promising growth-stage startups (details to be announced in November).
