BDUK awards CityFibre Project Gigabit contract for Sussex

Building Digital UK (BDUK) and CityFibre agreed in May 2026 to redesign the Project Gigabit contract for East and West Sussex, revising the scope and public funding for the rollout.

• Contract redesign (May 2026): The contract was redesigned to cover around 13,000 premises and is backed by £25.2 million of investment through Project Gigabit; the redesign was undertaken to minimise overlap with other suppliers’ commercial rollout and focus public funding on premises that would otherwise miss out.
• Original award and implementation details: BDUK originally awarded Cityfibre a £100 million contract signed January 2024 to reach around 52,000 hard-to-reach premises in East and West Sussex; first premises under the contract were anticipated to have access in 2025, and the government also provides up to £210 million of voucher funding nationally for rural areas.
