BDUK revises CityFibre Project Gigabit contract for Kent

BDUK has announced a redesign of the Kent Project Gigabit contract with CityFibre in May 2026.

• Main announcement: In May 2026 CityFibre and Building Digital UK (BDUK) agreed to redesign the Kent contract, reducing the scope to cover around 9,000 premises and backed by £26.1 million investment through Project Gigabit. The redesign was made to minimise overlap with other suppliers’ commercial rollout and focus public funding on premises that would otherwise miss out.
• Background and details: The original contract, signed January 2024, was a £112 million award to Cityfibre to provide around 50,000 hard-to-reach premises in Kent; first premises were anticipated in 2024. The government is also providing up to £210 million in voucher funding under the Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme and is engaging with other suppliers to reach remaining premises.
