Google funds Maipo Basin canal lining project

Google has announced a $1.2 million contribution to Aguas Andinas to support a canal-lining project in Chile’s Maipo River Basin.

• The funding will help line a 2.5-kilometer section of the Unidos de Buin Canal Association’s main irrigation canal with concrete to reduce seepage, sedimentation, and erosion.
• Google says its 2025 water stewardship efforts replenished more water to the Maipo River Basin than was consumed at its Quilicura, Chile data center; the project is estimated to save up to 7.4 million cubic meters (1.9 billion gallons) of water annually over its lifespan.
