Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has announced a demonstration of energy-efficiency improvements at the Fujitsu AKASHI Data Center in Japan.

  • MHI said it demonstrated measurable improvement in PUE at an operational data center, reducing cooling energy consumption while maintaining stable operation at the Fujitsu AKASHI Data Center operated by Fujitsu Limited.
  • The project used multi-vendor infrastructure and applied holistic control across the cooling system, including shared cooling infrastructure and AHUs; MHI said the demonstration achieved a 2.3% reduction in cooling energy use, with 7.6% projected savings when expanded across all server rooms.
  • MHI said the work was done without service interruption and used vendor-agnostic optimization technology from its Research & Innovation Center; it also reported COP for centrifugal chillers improved by more than 1.2 points.
