Moldovan parliament declares 60-day energy emergency

The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova has announced a nationwide 60-day state of emergency in the energy and hydrological sectors, starting 26 September 2026.

• The measures are aimed at preventing fuel shortages, ensuring continuity of electricity, natural gas and district heating supplies, and addressing the hydrological deficit in the Dniester and Prut basins.
• During the emergency, the National Crisis Management Commission may order stockpiling, distribution, export restrictions from strategic storage, price-cap measures, tax adjustments, reduced electricity consumption, direct procurement for emergency interventions, and temporary water-prioritization actions.
