Nessel seeks 71% cut to DTE rate hike request

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has announced testimony seeking to reduce DTE Electric’s proposed $474.3 million electric rate hike by 71%, asking the Michigan Public Service Commission to approve no more than $134.5 million.

• Nessel says the filing would cut DTE’s requested 10% residential rate hike to 2% and argues the utility’s costs are inflated and unjustified.
• Her testimony also targets DTE’s large-load data center studies, urging separate data-center rate treatment and direct assignment of incremental generation, transmission, and distribution costs to data centers.
• She separately referenced recent filings in Google’s data center proposal and an appeal over DTE contracts for a hyperscale AI data center in Washtenaw County.
• The release also says Nessel has helped save Michigan consumers more than $4.6 billion in proposed rate hikes overall.
