The National Nuclear Security Administration has announced the selection of Amentum to enter negotiations for a phased lease to develop an AI data center and dedicated on-site energy generation at the Savannah River Site in South Carolina.
- The proposed project includes a 1-gigawatt data center and about 2 gigawatts of on-site energy generation, using natural gas bridging to nuclear energy.
- NNSA said the selection follows a competitive request for proposals and that any agreement remains subject to successful negotiations, permitting, safety and security evaluations, and other federal approvals.
