South Africa committee reviews national cyber infrastructure system

The Parliament of South Africa’s Portfolio Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation conducted an oversight visit to the National Integrated Cyber Infrastructure System (NICIS) at CSIR in Rosebank.

• The visit reviewed NICIS infrastructure, capabilities, and role in South Africa’s digital transformation, including high-performance computing, high-speed connectivity, and national research data infrastructure.
• The committee said CHPC capacity has been reached, noted the need for continued investment in CHPC, SANReN, and DIRISA, and highlighted DIRISA’s secure national data center for critical research and government data.
