Uptime Institute survey finds rising rack density pressures

Telborg · July 28, 2026 · ✓ verified

Uptime Institute has announced the findings of its 16th Annual Global Data Center Survey.

  • High-density racks are rising fast, with more operators reporting peak rack densities of 30 kW or higher to support advanced computing workloads.
  • The survey, conducted online and via email, collected responses from more than 800 data center owners and operators; it also says more than half of respondents are in North America and Europe and that a webinar will be held on July 29 at 9:00 AM PDT / 12:00 PM EDT / 5:00 PM BST.
  • The report says operators face continued pressure from rising costs, power availability, supply chain disruptions, and staffing shortages, while sustainability tracking is improving and carbon emissions tracking remains a minority activity.
