The African Energy Chamber has released its “State of African Energy: 2026 Outlook Report” arguing that natural gas and LNG are central to African energy security and economic growth.

  • Angola, Mauritania, Senegal, Nigeria, South Africa and others are scaling gas production, LNG exports, and gas-to-power projects, including Angola LNG feedstock expansions, the Kaminho FPSO (2028), the GTA FLNG project (from 2025), and new CCGT plants to increase electricity generation, support industry (fertilizer, methanol, petrochemicals), and reduce gas flaring.
  • The report highlights 331 bcm African gas output in 2025, 40% gas share in power, potential +77 GW gas-fired capacity by 2050, and stresses regional power pools and the African Single Electricity Market (targeting 2040 integration) as key to linking gas exporters to importers and enabling a gradual transition to renewables while maintaining energy security.
