The European Investment Bank (EIB) has granted a €200 million loan to A2A to modernise and strengthen electricity distribution grids in Lombardy (province of Milan).

  • Main action:€200 million loan from the EIB to A2A to finance renewal of ~450 km medium-voltage and ~140 km low-voltage lines, progressive undergrounding in exposed urban areas, reconstruction/modernisation of almost 800 secondary substations, installation of transformers and new switching/protection equipment to increase transformation capacity and resilience. The project is presented as aligned with the A2A Group 2035 Strategic Plan and the loan prepares the grid for rising electrification demand including electric mobility and distributed generation.
  • Background/details: The initiative is promoted by Duereti (A2A’s distribution company). The A2A Group’s broader €23 billion investment plan to 2035 targets the green transition and circular economy. The EIB Group referenced its 2025 activity (signing €100 billion in new financing) and the EIF’s role in guarantees and venture activity (including the European Tech Champions Initiative mobilising over €1 billion of capital).
