ERCOT weekly load stays near record highs
The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported that ERCOT’s weekly average load in Texas stayed near record highs in late August 2026, reaching 74.5 GW for the week ending August 22 and 73.7 GW the following week. The story also says ERCOT is auditing data center interconnection proposals after Governor Greg Abbott’s moratorium on new data center interconnections.
Stony Brook launches digital twin studio for grid research
Stony Brook University has announced a Digital Twin Studio to advance power-grid research, resilience modeling, and workforce development. The initiative has about $550,000 secured, another $300,000 expected, and a December 2026 target for the first operational platform.
KIT announces new AI data center in Karlsruhe
Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) has announced a new AI and scientific computing data center in Baden-Württemberg, backed by 24 million euros in public funding. The modular facility will start at about 2 MW, scale to 10 MW, and begin operations with first computers in 2030.
