EU and Türkiye strengthen climate cooperation in Brussels
The European Commission and Türkiye held the third EU-Türkiye High-Level Dialogue on climate in Brussels on 1 October 2025 to solidify cooperation following Türkiye’s first Climate Law (July 2025).
-
The meeting was chaired by European Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra and Turkish Minister Murat Kurum, with the presence of the Turkish Deputy Ministers for Trade and for the Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change; participants reaffirmed commitments to the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement, reviewed progress since the previous ministerial climate meeting in April 2022, and exchanged views on updated NDCs to be submitted ahead of COP30 in Belém. They reviewed ongoing joint technical work on carbon pricing in light of the upcoming establishment of Türkiye’s emissions trading system, discussed adaptation, and agreed to establish a more structured and regular exchange on the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) within the bilateral dialogue; they also explored cooperation on just transition and coal.
