Putin launches Rosatom battery manufacturing cluster

Vladimir Putin has announced the launch of a new Rosatom electric battery manufacturing facility and broader national energy storage development efforts in Moscow.

  • The ceremony was held via videoconference on October 6, 2026 from Novo-Ogaryovo, Moscow Region, with attendance by Sergei Sobyanin, Alexei Likhachev, Anastasia Mikhailova, and Anatoly Popov.
  • Putin said the new facility is part of a high-tech industrial cluster in Moscow, and said Russia aims for most domestic battery demand to be met by 2030; he also noted battery storage can support the power grid and data centres.
  • The speech also referenced a prior Rosatom storage plant in the Kaliningrad Region (described as operating in test mode) and support under the New Nuclear and Energy Technologies national project.
