Grimes County executes SpaceX's TeraFab abatement as JETI filings detail a four-phase, on-site-powered fab
On June 3, 2026, the Grimes County Commissioners Court executed a property tax-abatement agreement with Space Exploration Technologies Corp. for a semiconductor and advanced-computing fabrication campus at the former Gibbons Creek Reservoir site. The agreement grants 100% abatement of county ad valorem taxes on improvements for tax years 2027 through 2036. Days later, Texas Comptroller JETI filings added phase-level detail. Two of the eight planned applications drew recommendation letters on June 15, 2026 — one for Anderson-Shiro CISD, one for Iola ISD — and both name on-site power generation, substations, backup generation, and utility-scale battery storage as eligible property.
