Austria publishes national risk analysis and resilience strategy

The Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) has published Austria’s national risk analysis and the Austrian Resilience Strategy (ÖSRKE) in January 2026, implementing the Resilience Kritischer Einrichtungen Gesetz (RKEG) passed in October 2025.

• Main announcement: The BMI published the national risk analysis and Austrian Resilience Strategy (ÖSRKE) in January 2026 as the first comprehensive application of the RKEG (Resilience Kritischer Einrichtungen Gesetz) originally adopted in October 2025; these documents provide a binding framework to protect vital services including energy, health, transport and digital infrastructure.
• Background and scope: The strategy and analysis establish a BMI-led governance and coordination framework, require regular evaluation and adaptation, and explicitly address natural hazards (floods, heat, drought), technical risks (large or prolonged power outages), and international threats (sabotage, hybrid attacks), plus sectoral dependencies and low-probability, high-impact scenarios.
