British International Investment has launched its new 2026-31 strategy in Nairobi, with a plan to increase investment in Kenya and across Africa while mobilising private capital.

  • BII said it will invest approximately KSh 864.3 billion of its own capital and mobilise up to KSh 683.7 billion in private capital across Africa under the new strategy.
  • The strategy will raise climate finance to at least 40%, aim to power 10 million households with clean energy, support jobs and economic opportunities for 10 million people, and target at least 30% of core investments toward improving opportunities for women.
  • BII said its previous five-year strategy period saw approximately KSh 154.8 billion committed across East Africa; BII-backed businesses in Kenya support over 57,000 direct jobs in more than 120 businesses and have paid more than KSh 62 billion in taxes.
  • The article also notes existing investments in Kenya, including SunCulture, renewable energy projects in Malindi and Menengai, and earlier BII support for East African Industries, Kenya Tea Development Authority, and Liquid Intelligent Technologies.
