Canada funds Quebec electricity grid modernization project

Natural Resources Canada has announced over $4.5 million in funding for the Saint-Jean-Baptiste Regional Electricity Cooperative’s Electricity Distribution System Modernization Project in Quebec.

• The SREPs funding will support grid modernization for a system serving 16 municipalities in Montérégie and Estrie, including improved reliability, resilience, renewable integration, battery storage, and deployment of up to 7,500 smart meters.
• The project is part of Canada’s broader effort to modernize electricity infrastructure and prepare for growing demand under Powering Canada Strong: A National Strategy for an Electrified Canadian Economy; the release also says SREPs is a $4.5-billion program.
