DTE Energy and sonnen have announced the launch of Michigan’s first residential battery virtual power plant (VPP) pilot at Veridian at County Farm in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

  • The two-year pilot will virtually connect nearly 100 homes using sonnen battery systems and VPP technology, after approval by the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC).
  • The project is located at Veridian at County Farm, a 170-home, carbon-neutral community on 14 acres adjacent to County Farm Park, built with geothermal energy, electric heat pumps, EV-ready charging, all-electric appliances, and rooftop solar arrays; the release also notes the VPP was nominated for the Michigan Energy Innovation Council’s Project of the Year award and that sonnen was named a 2026 POWER Awards finalist.
