Eskom has announced that South Africa’s national power system is stable and able to meet festive season electricity demand due to improved generation performance.

  • Generation Recovery Plan and intensified planned maintenance have raised the Energy Availability Factor (EAF) to 66.12% (up from 57.69% a year ago), with year-to-date EAF at 63.85% and the fleet meeting or exceeding 70% EAF on 39 occasions, contributing to more than 217 days without load shedding and only 26 hours of load shedding earlier this financial year.
  • To maintain a stable electricity supply, Eskom will bring 4 670MW of generation capacity online ahead of the evening peak and, according to its Summer Outlook (1 Sep 2025–31 Mar 2026, published 5 Sep 2025), it projects no load shedding due to sustained plant performance improvements.
