The EU and Canada have announced a new EU-Canada Alliance for the Future at the 21st EU-Canada Summit in Montréal, alongside several new agreements and cooperation tracks.
- The joint statement says the leaders launched the alliance on 29/30 October 2026 to deepen cooperation on trade, digital, energy, security, raw materials, finance, and people-to-people ties.
- It also announces substantive negotiations on a Digital Trade Agreement (DTA), Canada’s participation in EuroHPC JU, a new Frontex-Canada working arrangement, and joint work on AI infrastructure, subsea cables, energy security, and critical raw materials.
- The document is a joint statement / policy note from the Council’s General Secretariat rather than a commercial deal announcement, and it summarizes both the new commitments made at the summit and prior cooperation since June 2025.
