The European Commission has issued the 2026 State of the Digital Decade Communication, correcting earlier figures and setting out priorities for closing EU digital gaps through 2030 and beyond.
- The communication says the EU has made progress since 2022 but still faces major gaps in AI, semiconductors, cloud, cybersecurity, digital skills, and scale-up capacity; it calls for stronger coordination of reforms, national delivery, EU funding, and private investment.
- It also updates key figures, including VHCN at 85.6% and 4-year progress at 22.8%, and says Member States should update national roadmaps by December 2026 to align with the next Multiannual Financial Framework and the European Competitiveness Fund.
